I love movies based on true stories. People who know me well always tease me whenever I express this sentiment. These films have the power to make e laugh, cry, engage, and, more importantly, they provoke profound thought.
Recently, I had the pleasure of viewing "Seabiscuit." The movie revolves around a relatively modest racehorse that achieved remarkable accolades under the tutelage of Tom Smith, a trainer renowned for his unconventional methods. Tom outfitted Seabiscuit with blinkers to maintain his focus and introduced new companions—a dog, a spider monkey, and another horse—to keep him composed and content.
These became the secrets behind his triumph.
When embarking on significant projects, pursuing essential goals, or even entering a new job, the allure to measure ourselves against others, witness their victories, and be distracted by their actions often proves irresistible. This can occur despite having a solid strategy and a robust approach to shield us from diversions and comparisons. Regrettably, the presence of shiny distractions and the clamor of the crowd can easily lead us to:
Lose focus,
Disperse our energy, and
Become fatigued.
This is a common occurrence, particularly when we seek self-improvement, enhanced efficiency, and the knowledge to be dedicated while attaining our goals.
HOWEVER, there's a suitable time and place for ALL of these considerations.
Just not when our sights are fixed on a specific goal, and we're priming ourselves for the race ahead. If we aspire to cross the finish line, we must don metaphorical blinkers, repose faith in our strengths and capabilities, and wholeheartedly commit to what holds importance for us. We must entrust the process, believing that our concerted endeavors will guide us to our desired destination by the race's end. Even if the ultimate victory stand eludes us, it's perfectly fine because we summoned the courage to partake, even if not entirely prepared. Nonetheless, we will be prepared for our subsequent endeavor.
And what of our companions?
Let's ensure their steadfast presence, supporting us throughout our journey and ultimately celebrating when we swap our blinkers for hard-earned gold medals!
So today, my dear friend, I extend an invitation to you: transform commitment into your competitive edge.
Don those blinkers.
Keep your gaze unwaveringly fixed on the prize.
And I eagerly anticipate meeting you in the winner's circle.
